Maintaining an Airdog X3, X5, or X8 isn’t very hard work. It’s something that you should be able to do by yourself with a minimum of household tools (cloths and sponges) and detergents.
The frequency of cleaning your Airdog depends on the air quality of the room where you have placed it. Your Airdog should alert you when it needs to be cleaned. The Air Quality Index display will flash the letter “C” instead of the usual numerical display when the air purifier needs cleaning.
Some parts of the Airdog cannot be cleaned. They need to be replaced in a timely manner. You can easily purchase the replacement component from your Airdog supplier. Let’s take a look at how cleaning and maintenance for each component of an Airdog should be done.
When you remove the back cover of an AirDog, the order of the components is as follows:
-
Catalytic filter
-
Collecting plates
-
Wireframe
-
Pre-filter
Let’s take it part by part.
How To Maintain the Catalytic Filter In An Airdog
The catalytic filter is the only part in an Airdog air purifier that needs to be replaced. It lasts for 2 years if you regularly remove and place it in direct sunlight to “dry” out. You should do this every 3 to 6 months, if you’d like it to last for 2 years. A good warning sign that the catalytic filter needs to be replaced is when it starts collecting odours.
Remove the catalytic filter and place it in direct sunlight so that it dries out the moisture. If the evaporation process doesn’t remove the odours, it’s time to replace the filter altogether. Visit the Airdog website to place your order and ensure that you’ve chosen the filter which fits your Airdog model.
The frequency of replacing the catalytic filter depends on the quality of the air it’s been exposed to. If used in a smoker’s room or a house with pets, expect to replace it more frequently. Some of our customers have never replaced their catalytic filter.
How To Maintain the Collecting Plates In An Airdog
Below the catalytic filter, there are the collecting plates. You need to remove the set of collecting plates and wash them with some mild detergent and water. You could pop them in the dishwasher and run the full cycle.
If they are really filthy, soak them in water with a detergent for around 20 to 30 minutes before you put them in the dishwasher.
Dry them fully before putting them back in the Airdog. You can turn on the Airdog, set it to fan mode, and place the collecting plates on top overnight. This allows them to dry thoroughly and helps prevent any issues caused by moisture.
If there is a lot of stubborn and sticky residue on the collecting plates, here’s a quick fix. Mix detergent with water in a 50/50 solution (don’t use it at full strength), and spray both sides of the collecting plates in a sink or tub. Let it sit for about a minute, then rinse thoroughly using a faucet hose with hot water until the water runs clear down the drain.
Only put back fully dry collecting plates into the air purifier. Otherwise, you might hear a warning click sound.
How To Maintain the Wire Frames In An Airdog
Lay out the fireframe flat on a table and wipe down with a dry sponge or cloth. Don’t clean with damp towels or sponges.
How To Maintain the Pre-Filter In An Airdog
Shake off the dust on the pre-filter or primary filter and then wash it in a tub filled with water. Allow it to dry completely before putting it back in the air purifier.

Wrapping Up
Apart from these main cleaning processes, don’t forget to regularly wipe down or dust the exterior body of your Airdog.
Do the same for the interior body after removing the rubber covering. You can go ahead and wash the rubber covering in a tub filled with water. You should also use a Q-tip dipped in alcohol to clean the sensor probe.
Once everything has been dried, you are free to put them all back in their original places. Your Airdog is now clean and ready for the next cycle!
